Vietnamese movies on Netflix: how to find them

The quickest way to find Vietnamese movies on Netflix is the Browse by Languages page: choose "Original Language," then "Vietnamese," and Netflix shows every Vietnamese-language title available in your country. From there, you can sort the results and save anything that looks good to My List.

Why the catalog changes

Netflix licenses films country by country, and deals expire. A Vietnamese movie available in the US might not be available in the UK, and a title you watched last year may have left. That is why lists of "Vietnamese movies on Netflix" go stale quickly. The methods below always show what is available to you right now.

Method 1: Browse by Languages

On a web browser:

  • Open Netflix and look for Browse by Languages in the menu, or scroll to the bottom of the page.
  • Choose Original Language rather than dubbing or subtitles.
  • Select Vietnamese from the language list.
  • Use the sort options, such as suggestions or alphabetical, to scan the results.

This view is easiest on a computer. On TVs and phones, the menu may differ or be hidden, so it is worth doing your browsing on a laptop and adding titles to My List.

Method 2: Search smarter

Netflix search works with titles, actors, directors and genres. Some tips:

  • Search "Vietnamese" to pull up a mix of Vietnamese titles and related collections.
  • Search the English title and the Vietnamese title. Films often have both, such as Hai Phượng and Furie.
  • Drop the diacritics if a search doesn't work. "Mat biec" may find what "Mắt biếc" doesn't, or vice versa.
  • Search people. Try directors like Victor Vũ or actors like Ngô Thanh Vân or Trấn Thành.

When you find one Vietnamese title, scroll down its page to "More Like This" for related recommendations.

Method 3: Let the algorithm help

Netflix recommends based on what you watch. After you finish one or two Vietnamese films, you'll often see more appear on your home screen. Rating titles with thumbs up also nudges recommendations in the right direction.

Method 4: Check outside Netflix

Tools like JustWatch let you search a movie and see which services carry it in your country, including Netflix. This is handy if you already have a specific title in mind.

Setting up audio and subtitles

For the best experience:

  • Choose original Vietnamese audio if a dubbed version is set as default.
  • Turn on English subtitles, or Vietnamese subtitles if you're learning.
  • Try Vietnamese subtitles with Vietnamese audio once you have some basics; reading and hearing together is great practice.

Subtitle quality varies. Wordplay and pronouns often get flattened in translation. If characters call each other "anh," "chị," "em" or "mày," that carries meaning about relationship and mood that English subtitles usually drop.

What kinds of Vietnamese titles to expect

Netflix's Vietnamese offerings in many regions have included:

  • Action films, sometimes with international releases.
  • Romantic dramas and coming-of-age stories.
  • Family comedies, often hits from the Tết release season.
  • Horror films rooted in folklore. See Vietnamese horror movies for a scary night in.
  • Series and dramas, which vary a lot by region.

Exact titles depend on your location and change over time, so use the methods above rather than relying on a fixed list.

If Netflix doesn't have what you want

Vietnamese films are spread across many platforms. Some are on Vietnamese streaming services, some are available to rent digitally, and some older films appear on official studio YouTube channels. Our guide to where to watch Vietnamese movies online covers these options.

Making a watchlist

Create a simple plan so you don't get lost in the menus:

  • Pick one genre you already like.
  • Add three Vietnamese titles from that genre to My List.
  • Watch one each week, and note the actors or director you enjoyed.
  • Follow those names to your next film.

A note on profiles and regions

Netflix shows titles based on your account's country, not your language settings. Changing your profile language won't add new Vietnamese films, though it can change menus and subtitle defaults.

Open Browse by Languages on your laptop tonight, set it to Vietnamese and add three titles to My List before you start scrolling elsewhere.
